NOTES

Imagery – Painting Pictures with Words!

👉 What is Imagery?

- Imagery means using descriptive words to help readers see, hear, smell, taste, and feel what is happening.
- It makes writing come alive in your mind like a movie!

🖐️ The 5 Types of Imagery

1. 👀 Visual Imagery (What you see)

- Helps you picture something in your mind.
- Example: The bright yellow sun peeked over the tall green mountains.

2. 👂 Auditory Imagery (What you hear)

- Describes sounds.
- Example: The sizzling bacon popped and cracked in the pan.

3. 👃 Olfactory Imagery (What you smell)

- Talks about scents.
- Example: The sweet smell of cookies filled the kitchen.

4. 👅 Gustatory Imagery (What you taste)

- Describes flavors.
- Example: The sour lemon made my mouth pucker.

5. ✋ Tactile Imagery (What you touch/feel)

- Talks about how something feels (texture or temperature).
- Example: The rough blanket felt like sandpaper.

🧠 Why is Imagery Important?

- It helps readers:
  - Feel like they are inside the story
  - Use their imagination
  - Enjoy the writing more

👓 How to Find Imagery

- Look for describing words about:
  - Colors, shapes, sounds, smells, tastes, and textures.
